EFT for aiding Diabetes control
Apr 17th, 2008, 11:53pm

Now that I have finished the EFT eBook on menopause I'm looking into a similar thing looking, this time, at diabetes.

I notice on the video on Gary's site that one lady has found EFT to be so useful that she no longer has diabetes.

Now, while we can't claim that EFT can cure diabetes for everyone,  I have no doubt that it can help people to cope with the challenges that diabetes throws at them.

I will be following a similar format to the one that I have already used. This means that the first part of the eBook is effectively an EFT manual taking you through the background and rationale behind this deceptively simple energy meridian technique of 'acupuncture without needles'. With this knowledge you can apply EFT to practically any situation that can ever come up, with a high chance of success even if you are brand new to the technique.

The next section will look at the background to diabetes, possible conventional causes and common sense ways that people can help themselves. I will be including the low carb approach and Dr Bernstein's WOE (Way of Eating). For those people who say that this WOE is not sustainable because people just can't help eating all the starchy foods, etc. - well EFT can help with overcoming the cravings and carb addiction.

The third section breaks diabetes down into its individual symptoms or challenges. I know when I first started I hadn't the faintest idea of how to go about making up relevant Setup Phrases which is one of the reasons I decided to train as an EFT Practitioner. In this section, having discussed the subject from both conventional and less conventional points of view (ie. what is your body trying to tell you, what message is it trying to get across?) I try to provide the reader with some Setup Phrases to get them started on their way. From there on, it depends entirely upon what comes up for you and you can then carry on with your own personal, unique Setup Phrases.

I would like to be able to produce a resource that might enable and empower people with diabetes to take charge of their condition, so if anyone is interested in letting me know what particular topics they feel are pertinent or would like to see covered, and/or would like to try things out in a guinea pig way   and give me feedback on the success or otherwise, I'd love you to get in touch.

The subjects that immediately come to mind from my experience with my husband Alasdair and from what I've read on the Dr Bernstein Diabetes Forum, in no particular order of importance include motivation, cravings, weight, exercise, stress and anxiety, vision, kidneys, neuropathy, circulation and heart.

As I say on my website "Although I can make no claims of a cure, EFT can help to address problems of weight control, exercise and dietary compliance and general overall motivation. In turn this can mean that general improvements in these areas means that the diabetes is far better managed, reducing the risk of complications."

I've found with some of my clients that emailing can work very well if they need a helping hand or a pointer to move them on. If you are interested in participating but don't want to go public then please feel free to email me privately. Everything would be in confidence.

I think that EFT can be a very useful adjunct in the control of diabetes. Unfortunately, I can't promise miracles but with persistence and consistency of application the likelihood is that it can help to make things easier as you journey on through life. I'd certainly like an opportunity to see if it can and hope that the people on this forum might be interested in giving it a try. It can do no harm and may produce a lot of good.

I hope to get some feedback from you.

Regards,

Hi Karen,
I'm new to this forum and had seen this posting from approx. 10 months ago.  I'm wondering how things are panning out using EFT for diabetic control.  I know all about EFT and am very curious about any results you may have gotten.  I myself do not have diabetes..but my husband, like yours, does and I am very anxious to get any input on techniques to get the blood sugar levels down to a safe level.  My husband has been fed up taking insulin shuts due to the fact he has such weight gain when he does this....so he has stopped taking his insulin and has been losing weight steadily......though we all know its unhealthy when blood sugar levels are in the 400-5-- range.
Any input on your results would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello there, Connie,

Welcome to the Forum. As you can see, it's a very quiet one, although I'm hoping to start blogging soon, which may help me to raise its profile.  Roll Eyes

I have to say that using EFT for diabetic control is still to get off the ground. Sad Partly a combination of lack of time; not a lot of feedback from others and a lack of success in fully engaging the husband in the process. However, just the other night he did express an interest in looking into it a bit more deeply. Sometimes we just have to wait for the right time.  Wink

One piece of advice I would heartily suggest to you is to have a look at the Dr Bernstein Diabetes forum, of which I am a member. You do have to register and sign in like this one to view the forum.

There are a lot of very positive and well-educated people on there who share their experiences, the successes and the failures, and post lots of truly interesting information on research articles, etc. And there are loads of truly scrumptious recipes so you need never be stuck for alternatives.

I actually have an EFT thread that I started some time ago which you can find here.

Dr Bernstein advocates a very low carbohydrate diet, bearing in mind that it is carbs that turn to glucose as they metabolize down, and that someone with diabetes does not have the ability to metabolize those sugars. So it actually seems a very perverse thing to be told that you need to eat the very substances that are causing your problem. You don't hear anyone saying to an alcoholic "OK, it's fine to keep on taking the alcohol - just make sure it's the best quality and you divide it up through the day", which is effectively the conventional advice to diabetics.

You can read excerpts from his book, which I have in my library and thoroughly recommend, here. This can give you an idea of what the forum is all about. Following the advice given here and in the book, we managed to control Alasdair's diabetes symptoms for nearly 10 years before he had to go on Metformin.

Many of the detractors of this approach say that it's not sustainable (we've been doing this since about 2002 - Alasdair is not as good at it as I am, which is frustrating as he's the one who needs to control his BGs but he can and does generally keep up with it - it's just that he's out more eating on the hoof and there aren't always the best choices available) but interestingly enough, as more and more research is covering this approach, the ADA is no longer able to say that it's unsafe and are grudgingly coming around to say that it MIGHT help some folk. Really, it's all about choice, INFORMED choice. What works for one individual may not work for another, but unless you know about it and give it a try, you can never tell.

As you say, insulin is a fat-forming hormone, especially if used in large doses. Many diabetics seem to think, or are advised, that it's OK to eat what you like so long as you cover it with your insulin shots. And I've just done the conversion of BGs in the 400-500 range - that''s a staggering 22-27 mmol/l  Shocked I hate to think what the A1c level must be  Undecided. Many of the Bernies have A1cs in the 4 and 5s, they have such tight control that it's near normal - which is exactly what Dr Bernstein, himself a long-standing T1 diabetic, recommends to minimize risk factors.

It's known that BGs (Blood Glucose) levels above 140 for any period of time mean that there is a much higher risk for the diabetic complications to take hold, and Dr B sets BGs of 83 as a good one to aim for. Sounds impossible? Just check it out.

From the EFT point of view, have you checked out the diabetes articles on Gary Craig's site? I do have some links if you need them.

I have got a tapping list that I amended from one that Gene Monterastelli put together to help prevent colds and flu.

I've personalized it to suit our situation, including BG levels, blood lipid levels (ah yes, the cholesterol myth - more worried about triglycerides personally) and hormonal status as low testosterone levels are implicated in lack of diabetic control (recent blood test showed Alasdair's were in the low status) and low thyroid status can also complicate matters.

The idea is that you just tap away on all the shortcut points, starting at the eyebrow with the first line, the side of the eye with the second, etc. and keep going on until you have completed the list. I want to get the 2 page list laminated so it's easy to use. Alasdair has said he's OK doing this. Come to think of it, I need to do this as well as I've been plagued with a chest/throat infection and a cold these last few weeks, although they may also be the result of a lot of energy work I've been doing recently, a kind of cleansing detox. If that's the case, I must be in more of a mess than I thought  Roll Eyes  Grin ).

I'll put the list in the next reply as I'm running out of room here.

I hope the above is of some use to you. If you have any specific aspects that you would like to ask about then please do so.

Amended tapping list based on one that Gene Monterastelli put together.

EFT TAPPING – Prevention (or perhaps it should be EFT TAPPING TO MAINTAIN A STATE OF BALANCE)

Gene Monterastrelli finds it is very helpful to take a little time each morning and night to do tapping for general health.  The way he does it is to take a few deep breaths to relax himself, tune into his body, and tap on phrases like this:

I am so blessed to have the body I have...
It is so sophisticated in all that it can do...
It is a system that is built with amazing balance...
When something doesn't work well it has the power and tools to correct and heal...
I know my body has everything it needs to maintain optimum health...
My body was made for health...
I am thankful for this fact...
Right now I give all my intention to the healing powers of my body...
If there are any blocks to the healing power of my body...
I tune into them right now...
I see these blocks clearly...
And I let them go...
My body can remove these blocks effortlessly...
As the blocks are removed my body is able to function as it was made to...
In total health...
If there are any imbalances in blood sugars…
I tune into them now…
I allow them to come back into balance…
Any blocks to this natural balance are dissolved…
And my blood sugar runs in the normal, healthy range…
If there are imbalances in the lipid content of my blood…
I tune into them now…
I allow them to rebalance and come back to a state of health…
If my blood pressure runs higher than it should…
I tune into it now…
I let my heart beat strongly…
I let my blood vessels dilate to let the blood flow as it should…
If I am stressed at this time, whether it is health, work or other…
I tune into that stress now…
I allow my body to relax and release those stresses…
Loosen my muscles, release any tension…
If there are any signs of retinopathy in my eyes…
I tune into that now…
I allow those tiny blood vessels to maintain their integrity, strength and elasticity…
If I have imbalances in testosterone or any other hormone levels…
I tune into them now…
I allow all my hormonal levels to balance themselves out…
Any blocks to this natural balance are dissolved…
And all my hormonal levels run in their normal and healthy range…
I tune into any bacteria, fungus, or virus that prevent my body being in total health...
Whether these bacteria, fungus, or viruses be known or hidden...
I release the body's healing powers on these bacteria, fungus, and viruses...
My body is able to manage all of these intruders...
Bring my body back to total health...
I am thankful for how my body is able to work back to health...
Any resources the healing part of my body needs to bring the body back to health I hand those resources over right now...
Once again I tune into any blocks to my healing that are in my body, mind, or spirit...
I give my body permission to let these blocks go...
Anything that is preventing my body form maintaining health I remove and clear right now...
I now tune into any part of my body that is designed for growth...
I give thanks for the parts of my body that are committed to my growth...
I tune in to any of the blocks in my mind, body, or spirit which are preventing my body from growing in the ways it is designed to grow...
I let go of any and all of the blocks I have to growth...
These blocks are no longer needed...
I see and feel them being let go...
I give thanks for the amazing power of my body...
I know my body is made to heal and grow...
I give my body permission to heal and grow

If you'd like to give that a go, Connie and let me know how you get on, it could be quite interesting.

Other tapping issues which might be applicable, depending upon your personal situation might be to consider resistance to change, fear of the consequences of running high BGs, that sort of thing.

Hope that all helps. Look forward to hearing back from you.

Karen,
Thank you for your detailed response.  I have visited Dr. Bernstein's site awhile back,  maybe a year or two, but didn't think it would get right with my husband.  I'll revisit it again soon and give it another look.  I'll also explore more of the EFT options and see where that leads us.  It all boils down to my husband wanting to do it and get over the disappointments over the years of going to regular Drs. and them not really addressing the weight gain effect....since blood sugars were in line. His Dad was always a big, big man and my husband was well on his way there and decided he didn't want to head in that direction......now much weight has come off...but as a consequence, the blood sugars are quite high.........I'll keep searching for a solution that works for him and try convincing him (without seeming to nag) that he needs to change his approach on this.
Thanks for your time.....I appreciate it.     Connie

Hi Connie,

Yes, the Bernstein way is a huge change to the accepted route, and thus very frightening, I think I can safely say, at times, but it can work extremely well. I feel that the biggest issue is often around the fact that food is involved with many emotional factors and ties, and the kind of foods that we gravitate to.

Have you downloaded my free EFT Manual from my site? There is a chapter in there on "Weight" with details on why carbohydrates are so attractive to many people.

Of course the disappointment your husband feels is very tappable, and the concern about becoming as big as his father.

Unfortunately, from my knowledge of physiology (2 years of study for my herbal medicine diploma) the way the body metabolizes certain food stuffs means that when your carbohydrate metabolism is compromised as in diabetes, it is always going to be a problem food stuff.

Drs still follow the accepted route that you must eat x amount of carbs a day, but I explained earlier why I feel that is daft.

And of course, when talking low carb, lots of people think it means NO carb, which isn't true. We certainly eat plenty of vegetables as stir-fries and salads, etc., and enjoy strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and the like with cream, but the only way we can keep Alasdair's BGs in the good range is to avoid the starchy carbs such as rice, pasta, potatoes and bread.

He can eat those and watch his BGs soar within 10 minutes to 12-15 mmol (216 - 270) and stay there for hours, whereas our usual meal, say from last night was a chicken stir fry (chicken marinaded in soy sauce, dry sherry, rice wine, garlic, chilli pepper and ginger, stir-fried with spring onions (scallions?), red and green pepper, mushrooms and okra, along with a Gin and Diet Tonic, finished off with a couple of very nice orange chocolates (73% cocoa ) had the BG result of 6.6 (118.8) 90 minutes later. Not quite as well-controlled as the good Dr himself, but getting better all the time now additional factors are being addressed.

Certainly the BG control is crucial to help reduce long term complications. As you say, you have to hunt around to find a solution that is suitable, although as I said earlier - sometimes the solutions can involve some sacrifice and great change, which can bring up reluctance to try something so radically different.

You are doing a grand job at supporting and helping your husband. I know it can be frustrating at times if they seem to want to do things that may be harmful, but you can only lead a horse to water, you can't make it drink.  Wink "Slowly, slowly, catchee monkey" also comes to mind. On the few occasions I have tried to use EFT with Alasdair he has just monkeyed around and I ended up tapping on my own sense of immense frustration. To me, his reluctance to have a go suggests perhaps a subconscious fear that something may come to the surface that he may not like. I dive in enthusiastically and have had some very interesting result with EFT. I just wish he would give it a decent chance, but it seems he's coming over to it now.

And I know what you mean about the nagging  Wink, although Alasdair has given me permission to nag as much as I feel necessary. Doesn't mean he always listens though  Grin  Grin  Grin.

If you want to contact me off-forum more privately then please feel free to email me. Two heads can often be better at coming up with things than one, I always find.
